The accountancy data of the agricultural accountancy network (approximately 850 professional farms) of Service d’Economie Rurale (SER) and Agrigestion (office for accountancy of the board of agriculture) are used to determine mean purchasing resp. selling prices for agricultural land. A subsample of the farm accountancy network constitutes the database for Luxembourg for the farm accountancy data network (FADN) established at european level. The agricultural accountancy network is an significant source for the economic statistics at national and european level.
The transactions of land recorded normally concern only land which is effectively used as agricultural land. That’s why this data source was given a preference before administrative data (Administration de l’Enregistrement). However, the data source has the disadvantage that it covers only the transactions where farmers are involved, whereas transactions between non-farmers are not covered. The median price, the weighted average price and the non weighted average price of agricultural land expressed in EUR/ha are calculated. The median price shows the percentages of lowest annual variation and is used for the price series transmitted to EUROSTAT and published at national level.
