Since early May, threats of additional hikes in customs duties between the United States and China have thrown the financial markets into turmoil. The risks that this escalation poses to global growth have considerably increased volatility on the stock markets. Faced with these uncertainties, central banks have changed their position by opting for accommodating monetary policies to bolster activity, while investors have fled to risk-free assets.
