A dimension is a category of data, such as Region, Date, or Gender. Dimensions are sometimes referred to as "Categories," "Variables," or "Fields."
Switching dimensions exchanges their positions. You can switch any dimension with any other. To switch dimensions, drag and drop one dimension onto another. The underlying dimension changes color to show that the dragged dimension can be dropped. .
In the following illustration, an Other dimension has been dragged to the column dimension area. The column dimension has changed color to show that you can drop the dragged dimension onto it, switching their places.

You can move row or column dimensions to and from the Other dimension area by dragging and dropping them. Do not drop on top of another dimension or the dimensions will switch places.
Both the rows and the columns must always contain at least one dimension.
Nesting dimensions places one dimension inside another. It allows a report to display more than one row or column dimension at a time. You can nest dimensions by dragging and dropping them. The underlying dimension changes color on one edge only, to indicate where the nested dimension will appear.
In the screenshot below, an Other dimension has been dragged to the edge of the row dimension. The edge of the row dimension has changed color to show that the dragged dimension can be dropped and nested into it.
