Road accidents involving motorcyclists
Between 2012 and 2014, 21 motorcyclists were killed in accidents involving at least one injured on Luxembourgian roads, 153 were seriously injured and 210 suffered minor injuries. 89% of the victims were men and 43% were not residents of the Grand Duchy.
On Sundays motorcyclists are more often involved in accidents. Generally speaking accidents that happened in the North of the country were more severe.
39% of motorcyclists were injured in accidents involving no other road user. 64% of these accidents took place in a road curve. The motorcyclist was presumed solely responsible in one third of the collisions with other road users. The offence most often committed by motorcyclists involved in road accidents was driving at a speed that was excessive and inappropriate for the situation.
