The Directors board deals with budgetary and personnel issues. It supervises the execution of urgent matters. The directorate and the heads of units and divisions meet monthly (Statcor) in order to discuss joint projects, exchange information, follow up day-to-day issues as well as the implementation and monitoring of the annual program.
STATEC's current staff is made up of researchers, experts/consultants, temporary and auxiliary personnel, trainees and students. The "research team" was created in 2009. With the new law of July 10, 2011, applied scientific research was officially added to STATEC's missions. Research focuses on the study of the determinants of productivity and competitiveness.
Supreme Council of Statistics (SCS)
The Conseil supérieur de la statistique (CSS) was reformed by the law of July 10, 2011 on the organization of STATEC (Pdf, 110 Ko). Its missions and proceedings have been specified by the Grand Ducal regulation of 12 March 2013 (Pdf, 43 Kb). It acts in an advisory capacity to STATEC and meets at least once a year. The CSS comprises (Pdf, 132 Ko) 10 members and one observer.
The Council gives notably advice on:
- the activity report and the annual work program of the national statistical system, established by the Committee for public statistics at the beginning of each year;
- the works and decisions of the Committee for public statistics;
- the priorities and main orientations of public statistics;
- the quality of the national statistical system and its ability to meet the user's needs
Committee for official Statistics (COS)
The Committee for Official Statistics consists of representatives of the national authorities, the Ministries, the public institutions and the observatories which establish and disseminate statistics or which hold data that has been used or can be used for statistical purposes. The Committee comprises around 40 members and is chaired by the Director of STATEC.
The CSP's mission is to :
- to coordinate and follow up the statistical programs of the different national authorities, Ministries, public institutions and observatories in order to improve the efficiency and the quality, to reduce the global statistical response burden and to fulfil European and international obligations within the time frame;
- to analyse the needs of the users for statistics and economic, social and environmental analysis;
- to give its opinion on regulatory projects that could affect the national statistical system;
- to give its opinion on publicly funded statistical surveys planned by private entities.
Scientific Council
The Scientific Council has the mission to evaluate and advise STATEC’s analyses, studies and research. It gives its opinion on every issue submitted by the Ministre responsible for Economics and can make recommendations to this same Ministry on its own initiative.
The Scientific Council consists of three members that are recognised for their competence in the field of STATEC’s missions. The Director of STATEC attends the meetings with voting right.

Security policy
In the context of its activities, security in the collection, processing, storage and distribution of information is a key issue in terms of confidentiality, integrity, availability and traceability. STATEC may be a target for cyber-attacks due to its role as a public entity, the type of information it publishes and its target audience. Moreover, in a global environment of increased digitization, interconnections and subcontracting, vulnerabilities may appear that could compromise information security.
Finally, STATEC also has a security obligation under legal frameworks and regulations aimed at protecting personal data such as the ESS IT Security framework which is designed to increase trust between members of the European statistical system (ESS) by defining rules and standards for the management, exchange and storing of confidential information within the ESS.
It is therefore essential to define the security principles, objectives and regulations as well as the management system governing information security within STATEC, which is achieved via this information security policy and all related documentation. STATEC started a project in 2017 to reach a higher level of conformity to the ESS IT Security framework with EU funding over a 3 year period and is now certified.
TWIST: STATEC's new headquarters
STATEC's new ‘Twist’ headquarters, inaugurated in September 2024, embodies innovation and sustainability, combining architecture, technology, well-being and respect for the environment. Every architectural detail, such as the large windows, the abundance of daylight and the use of natural materials like terracotta and wood, has been carefully thought out to create an ergonomic, comfortable and stimulating working environment. Designed to meet the requirements of a modern statistical office, the building encourages exchanges and meetings, with collaborative spaces, flexible meeting rooms, a logistics centre and state-of-the-art equipment for hybrid working. ‘TWIST’ is the first building in Luxembourg to aim for WELL PLATINUM certification, a global standard focused exclusively on health and well-being.
Every aspect of its design aims to reduce the ecological footprint while providing a healthy, eco-responsible living environment. Currently being certified to BREEAM, the leading environmental assessment method, the building is designed to minimise environmental impact, adapt to climate change and reduce carbon emissions.
