A very small developed economy is obliged to open. Therefore, it undergoes very quickly and directly the effects - positive and negative - of global economy changes. During the last half-century, structural changes in the global economy were not only very deep, but they also occurred in an unprecedented rhythm. The globalization process has obviously challenged the foundations and structures of a very small space economy such as Luxembourg.
