The Statistical System Luxembourg

The Luxembourg Statistical System (LSS) is coordinated by STATEC, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies. Indeed, according to article 3 of the law of 10th July 2011 on the organization of official statistics in Luxembourg, «STATEC ensures, in consultation with the Committee for Public Statistics, the coordination of the national statistical system.»

The Luxembourg Statistical System is organised according to the principle of statistical centralization. According to article 3 of the statistics law, «STATEC coordinates the national statistics system in consultation with the Committee for Official Statistics. It ensures the harmonization of statistical methods, definitions and classifications and ensures the application of European and international standards in this area.»

Nevertheless, the needs for statistical data in relation to the available resources mean that STATEC makes extensive use of collaboration with other data producers as well as with public and private research centres.

Alongside its own surveys, STATEC therefore centralizes the data available from Luxembourg administrations to carry out its studies, but also to make them accessible to its users on a single platform.

Certain surveys and studies are carried out in close collaboration with the University of Luxembourg and research centers in Luxembourg, in particular the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), and abroad.
