Wage indexation on 1 February 2023

According to the provisional result published by STATEC, the annual inflation rate of the national consumer price index (NICP) was 4.8% for January. With this result, the half-yearly average of the index linked to the 1.1.1948 base for the month of January exceeds the threshold of 964.64 points, thus triggering a new indexation.

The new sliding scale index of 898.93 points (old index: 877.01 points) comes into force on 1 February 2023, resulting in a 2.5% increase in wages, salaries and pensions.

Articles 4 to 6 of the Act of 29 June 2022 create a sliding scale of family allowances (EMAF), which adjusts their amounts to the cost of living. In accordance with the legislation in force, the adjustment of family allowances takes place in the month following its triggering. Consequently, the EMAF application rate of 921.40 points (former rate: 898.93 points) comes into force on 1.02.2023, resulting in a 2.5% increase in family allowances on that date.

The final and detailed results of the national consumer price index for January will be published on 10 February 2023, following the monthly meeting of the Index Commission.

The provisions governing the sliding scale system for all employees and pensioners are set out in Article 3 of the amended Act of 25 March 2015 laying down the salary system and the conditions and procedures for the advancement of State employees.
