Economic difficulties and material deprivation remain strong for part of the population in 2022

STATEC recently published the first results of its survey on household income and living conditions in Luxembourg in 2022. This survey, which is part of a European framework (European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions - EU-SILC), is a fundamental source of data for describing the well-being and living conditions of Luxembourg's resident population. SILC data can also be used to assess the effectiveness of policies to reduce poverty and social exclusion.

In 2022, a year marked by a sharp rise in inflation, we can see that economic and financial difficulties have been severe for a significant proportion of the population in the Grand Duchy. For some households, these difficulties have led to situations of material deprivation, i.e. giving up certain goods or activities for financial reasons. Furthermore, while household disposable income has continued to rise on average in 2021, significant inequalities persist within the population.
