Economic seminar - Polls: myths and realities

The economic seminar Polls: myths and realities, organised by STATEC, took place on 16 September 2024 .

At this occasion, Guillaume Osier presented the following topic:

Although they are widely used today to collect and produce statistical information on households, individuals and businesses, sample surveys are often criticised because of their dominant role in the media and politics, and because of growing public concern about the use and security of their personal data.
Based on STATEC's experience, this seminar for the general public will attempt to dispel certain preconceived ideas about the conduct of surveys and will detail the current and future challenges facing this sector, including the decline in participation in surveys, the emergence of new data sources and the protection of statistical confidentiality.
This seminar is being organised as part of the 13th International Francophone Conference on Surveys. Organised jointly by the Société Française de Statistique, the University of Luxembourg, STATEC and the Société Luxembourgeoise de Statistique, this scientific meeting will take place from 5 to 8 November 2024 on the campus of the University of Luxembourg in Esch-Belval.
