Annual inflation rate up from 1.7% to 2.0%

In May 2025, the national consumer price index, calculated by STATEC, rose by 0.6% on the previous month, driven by higher prices for certain services, triggered in particular by the indexation of wages on May 1st.

Monthly inflation is largely due to the surge in service prices, which gained 1.3% in one month. Retirement and nursing home fees rose by 2.3% from May 1. In addition, prices for home maintenance and repair services rose by 2.0%, car maintenance and repair by 1.1%, domestic services by 2.6% and crèches and halfway houses by 11.8%. Price increases were also noted in the catering (+0.8%) and home insurance (+0.8%) sectors. In addition, medical and dental service prices are mechanically linked to wage indexation.
