Annual inflation rate up from 2.3% to 2.4%

In August 2025, the national consumer price index, calculated by STATEC, rose by 1.3% compared to July. This increase is mainly due to the end of the summer sales. When adjusting for sales-related variations and excluding petroleum products, prices for other goods and services rose by 0.4%.

The end of the sales period has led to prices returning to their usual levels, particularly in the “Clothing and footwear” division, which recorded a marked monthly increase of 18.9%. Other categories also affected by the end of the sales are household appliances (+2.5%), jewelry (+5.9%) and audiovisual, photographic, and computer equipment (+1.7%). Year-on-year, clothing and footwear prices rose more modestly, by 0.2% and 1.6% respectively.
