World Tourism Day

To mark World Tourism Day on Saturday 27 September 2025, STATEC is highlighting the travel habits of Luxembourg residents.

Celebrated on 27 September each year, World Tourism Day is the perfect opportunity to highlight the travel behaviour and habits of residents of the Grand Duchy. These statistics provide a better understanding of the travel habits, preferred destinations, and tourist spending of the country’s population.

The residents of the Grand-Duchy are among the most frequent travellers in Europe. On average, they take 5 trips per year, for a total of 35 overnight stays and a budget 1,292€ spent per trip. Visits to family and friends account for a significant proportion of these trips (37%), with an average duration of 13 overnight stays.

In terms of destinations, Europe remains the most popular choice. France (21%) ranks first, followed by Germany (12%), Belgium (8%), Spain (8%), Italy (7%) and Portugal (7%). These trends highlight the cultural, economic and personal ties that unite Luxembourg with its European neighbours and partners.
