European Statistics Competition 2026–2027 launched: Registration is now open
The European Statistics Competition (ESC) is back for a new edition! Open to students aged 14 to 18, the competition invites young people to explore statistics through challenges that put their knowledge, critical thinking and creativity to the test. Registration is open until 11 December 2026.
Organised at European level by Eurostat and coordinated in Luxembourg by STATEC, the ESC aims to raise young people's awareness of the importance of official statistics and their role in understanding the world around us.
Students can participate individually or in teams of two or three, supported by a teacher acting as their tutor.
Two challenges to discover statistics in a different way
The national competition consists of two complementary challenges:
An online questionnaire allowing participants to test their statistical knowledge, reasoning skills and ability to understand and interpret data.
A photo competition inviting teams to combine photography, statistics and a message inspired by this year's theme: "Measuring the Invisible".
Through this theme, participants are encouraged to explore realities that are not always immediately apparent. Behaviours, habits, societal changes and environmental phenomena are just some of the topics that statistics can help make visible and better understood.
A national competition with European opportunities
At the end of the national phase, the best-performing teams will have the opportunity to advance to the European stage and compete against participants from other countries. A range of high-tech prizes will also be awarded to the winning teams in Luxembourg.
Key dates
20 October 2026: Launch of the competition and photo contest
11 December 2026: Registration deadline

The European Statistics Competition is organised in Luxembourg by STATEC, in partnership with SCRIPT and the Luxembourg Statistical Society, as part of a European initiative led by Eurostat and co-funded by the European Union.
