The average size of dwellings in Luxembourg is 140m2 and is among the highest in Europe. The average housing area for people aged 65 and over exceeds 150m2. Income inequalities are reflected in the housing surface irregularities, especially in Luxembourg. The average area is 34.7m2 per capita for people at risk of poverty (whose income is below the 60% of median income) and 57.2m2 per head for non-poor. 7.0% of Luxembourg residents live in an "overcrowded" dwelling, against 11.7% on average in the euro area. Nearly 60% of homes are under-occupied in Luxembourg. For people aged 65 and over, the under-occupation rate exceeds 80%. 14.5% of respondents in Luxembourg say they have a problem with a lack of space in their homes. However, people at risk of poverty are much more frequently in that situation (31.4%) than non-poor (11.5%).
