During the year 2018, the population of the Grand Duchy increased by 11,889 persons, so that as of 1 January 2019, 613,894 inhabitants reside in Luxembourg. This continuous increase in the population is mainly due to net immigration. 47% of the inhabitants of the country do not have Luxembourg nationality. As of January 1, 2019, the average age of the population is 40.2 years for women and 38.7 years for men. Foreigners are significantly younger than Luxembourgers.
