Statistics by geographical breakdown
On the 1st of January 2022, 12 cantons and 102 municipalities structure the territory of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. After the abolition of districts in 2015, the canton is the largest territorial subdivision in the country. From an administrative point of view, the municipality represents the smallest territorial subdivision of the country.
Analyzing statistics at different geographical levels enables a better comprehension of the geographical distribution of a phenomenon in Luxembourg. What are the spatial variations of a phenomenon within the country? Are there regional trends?
As cantons and communes are the most common Luxembourg administrative divisions, the will serve as the main spatial unit of analysis.
