Output price index in construction

The output price index in construction is a bi-annual short-term indicator representing the change in prices for the construction of residential buildings.

Survey objective

Establishment of an index indicating the evolution of construction prices

Implementation

STATEC disseminates the output price index in construction twice per year, in January and July, for the reference periods of October and April respectively. The base year for the construction price index is currently set to 2020 = 100. A long-term index with 1970 = 100 is also disseminated. The index is based on a sample of around 200 enterprises.

In April and in October, the sampled construction units are contacted in order to report the prices for representative construction tasks.

Legal framework

The output price index in construction is based on the Regulation (EU) 2019/2152 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 November 2019 on European business statistics

Council regulation (EC) No 1165/98 of 19 May 1998 concerning short-term statistics
