Regards 01/22 - Unions in decline in a changing working world
In the 20th century, trade unions established themselves as important actors in social dialogue and the negotiation of social conventions. In recent years, the decline in labor-intensive mass production, the economic transformation induced by technical progress and digitization, as well as the emergence of new forms of work have reduced the weight of the trade unions. This deunionization can be observed in almost all OECD countries. At Luxembourg, despite the increase in the number of employees, the proportion of union members among resident employees fell by more than a third over the past decade to stand at 25% in 2019.
