Regards 03/24 - The impact of frontier workers in the balance of payments in 2022

In 2022, the remuneration of incoming cross-border commuters in Luxembourg will amount to EUR 15.1 billion, while the remuneration received by outgoing cross-border commuters will amount to EUR 2 billion, resulting in a deficit of EUR 13.1 billion in the remuneration of employees item of the balance of payments. For the year 2022, the social contributions received are slightly lower than the social benefits paid to non-residents (excluding unemployment benefits and financial aid for students living abroad).
