Regards 02/26 - Panorama of the Luxembourg labour market on May 1st
Labour Day provides an opportunity to present some figures on the workforce in Luxembourg. At the end of 2025, Luxembourg had nearly 494,000 employees, 47% of whom were cross-border workers, and only one in four employees was a Luxembourg national. For residents, the ‘traditional’ model of full-time work on a permanent contract with daytime hours now applies to only a minority: nearly two in three workers (66%) are engaged in at least one form of non-standard work, characterised by shift work, part-time hours or weekend work. These changes in the world of work also highlight marked gender disparities, with women more often having to adapt or interrupt their careers for family reasons: 61% of them report having adapted their working situation, compared with 45% of men. At the same time, 36% of those in employment now work from home at least occasionally, a high figure that has stabilised in recent years.
