European statistical program
In order to produce relevant and internationally comparable data, particularly between EU Member States, EUROSTAT has set up a common statistical programme in collaboration with the national statistical institutes.
On the basis of the community regulations and directives, the statistical offices apply a common methodology to conduct surveys, and lay down rules regarding sampling and calculations.
They determine which economic account aggregates and nomenclatures to use. Thus, in order to improve data quality and comparability, STATEC’s experts participate in committees, working groups and workshops that are regularly organised by EUROSTAT.
The European Statistical System Committee (ESS) brings together the General Directors of the national statistical offices to discuss and approve the work programs while keeping in mind the challenges and specificities of each Member State.
As a key partner of international organisations (UN, OECD, IMF, World Bank, etc.), STATEC is closely involved in the development of international statistics.
Within the European Union, STATEC partners with the national statistical institutions of the other Member States which form with EUROSTAT - Statistical Office of the European Union -, the European statistical system. STATEC is the main contact regarding statistical information on a national level due to its function of centralisation. As part of the cross-border cooperation, STATEC is actively involved in the statistical work of the Greater Region Saar – Lor – Lux – Rhineland-Palatinate – Wallonia, that intend to collect comparable and consistent statistical documentation of the Greater Region.
