Housing characteristics survey
The objective of the Housing characteristics survey is to gather information about the characteristics of houses recently acquired by households in order to determine how these characteristics impact on the purchase price as indicated in the notary deed. This information aims at producing a constant quality House Price Index.
The House Price Index, which is published on a quarterly basis, is disseminated via the short term indicator C (Excel, 371 Kb).

Households that have recently purchased a house
How to participate?
Four times a year, a questionnaire is sent to the persons having recently acquired a house. This questionnaire must be returned to STATEC by means of an added prepaid envelope. It is also possible to fill out an electronic questionnaire.
Survey period
It is a quarterly survey.
Legal framework
Commission Regulation (EU) No 93/2013 of 1 February 2013 laying down detailed rules for the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 2494/95 concerning harmonised indices of consumer prices, as regards establishing owner occupied housing price indices.
In accordance with Article 16 and 17 of the Law of 10 July 2011 on the organisation of the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies, questionnaire responses provided by individuals are covered by statistical confidentiality and are used for statistical or research purposes only. Article 13 of the same law specifies the obligation for individuals to provide the statistical information requested by STATEC within pre-set deadlines.
