Regards 17/2021 - The sports economy represents 1.1% of gross domestic product
From 2016 to 2020, the sports economy in Luxembourg has seen its output grow by 2% . This increase is lower than the growth of the national economy. The importance of sport has decreased from 1.2% of GDP in 2016 to 1.1% in 2020. In contrast, employment in the sport sector has increased more strongly than at national level. It increased from 0.8% of national employment in 2016 to 0.9% in 2020. During this period, household spending on sports products and services increased by 22%. Finally, the study shows that volunteering in sport is time-consuming and dominated by men.
