Economic seminar - Data collection: an essential tool for gender equality policies

On 2 February 2024, STATEC and the Observatoire de l'Égalité entre les genres - Ministère de l'Égalité des genres et de la Diversité organised an economic seminar entitled Data collection: an essential tool for gender equality policies.
On this occasion, Danièle Siebenaler presented the following topic:

Data collection: an essential tool for gender equality policies

In 2019, the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity, then called the Ministry for Equality between Women and Men, initiated the creation of an Equality Observatory. It was set up gradually and finally completed in 2023.
The Equality Observatory now provides gender-disaggregated data in 7 areas: domestic violence, employment, work/life balance, decision-making, education, income and health. More than 400 indicators describe equality in the above areas, and some are broken down by several factors such as age, nationality or level of education in order to meet the criterion of intersectionality.
The aim of this seminar was to present the missions of the Observatoire de l'Égalité and to illustrate, with the help of a few examples, the purposes of data collection in the field of equality.
