Structural Business Surveys (SBS)

The annual business survey is composed of 7 different questionnaires fitting to the economic activities of the business units as defined by NACE classification.

The questionnaire, which is mainly based on definitions and precepts of the Standard Chart of Accounts (PCN, Plan Comptable Normalisé), has been elaborated to address both national and European needs in the framework of economic activity statistics and the regulation (EU) N°2019/2152 on European Business statistics.

Survey objectives

The objective of Structural Business Statistics (SBS) is to make available to national and decision-makers at national and European level as well as to economic agents in general comparable annual Community statistics on the structure, activity, competitiveness and performance of enterprises producing market goods and goods and services in the European Union.

Structural business statistics are also used in the compilation of national and regional accounts, in accordance with the European System of of Integrated Economic Accounts (ESA).

Implementation

The questionnaires are sent by mail during the summer to a sample of business units drawn by STATEC. The contacted units should reply within one month following receipt of their questionnaire.

Please note that the questionnaires are only available in German or French.
